Final Big East Power Rankings

Since I am a big Pitt fan and hopefully a future graduate student, I decided to do a Big East Power Ranking from the epic spectacular regular season that we all witnessed this year #sarcasm

I will do one more ranking when the bowl games are over with but for now lets took a look at how these powerhouse programs have performed this season.

1. West Virginia (9-3, 5-2). The Hoopies won three straight after losing at home to Louisville and got the Big East automatic berth into the BCS after emerging from a three-way tie atop the league standings. First year coach Dana Holgerson turned around a potentially disasterous first season into a succesful BCS season.  I'm not sure how well Dana and his squad will fare in the BIG 12 but this year they are Kings of the Big Least.

2. Cincinnati (9-3, 5-2). coach Butch Jones for led his team to a Big East championship after a going 4-8 last year.  He is definately the comeback coach of the year. Zach Collaros' ankle injury tcost the Bearcats a BCS birth but the team still won its last few games. This team was impressive at times this season and it should take pride in a great turn around season.

3. Louisville (7-5, 5-2). In my book the Cards are the real champions of the Big East. They beat WVU but a 7-5 record kept the cards from gaining a BCS birth. The Cardinals definately played the best football at the end of the regular season out of all the Big East teams.

4. Rutgers (8-4, 4-3).  Greg Schiano led his team back to a bowl game and finished the year with 8 wins. Not bad at all for a program that is traditionally weak with football. I personally think Schiano should have been on his way out but an 8-4 season is definately delaying the process of his firing.

5. Pitt (6-6, 4-3).  This season had to much hype from the beginning. This team was in a RADICAL transition year and people put heavy expectations on them. That being said Pitt did not get blown out in any games and kept it close. But 6-6 and going to the compass bowl again, certianly shows that this season was a disapointment for Pitt.

6. UConn (5-7, 3-4). The Huskies followed up a BCS berth without making a bowl in 2011. This may have been the most offensively challenged big east team ever and that's saying something. Things would have been different if Edsall didnt take his "dream job" at Maryland.

7. USF (5-7, 1-6). USF had their first losing season since 2004 and had their worst Big East conference record ever. Many predicted USF to win the Big East and losing 5 close games, like Pitt, kept them out of a bowl game this year.

8. Syracuse (5-7, 1-6). The Orange lost five straight to end the season after a big win against West Virginia. It is what it is and the Orange finish last in the power rankings. Not really much to say about this team.
