NFL Week 5 Re-Cap

Week 5 proved that The Detroit Lions and The Green Bay Packers are going to be in for an interesting showdown as both teams from the NFC North remain undefeated.

Green Bay (25) v. Atlanta (14)

Aaron Rodgers started out slowly but ended up throwing for 396 yards and a pair of touchdowns rallying the Packers over the Falcons. Mason Crosby was the star of the first half with 3 field goals. Late in the 3rd Quarter, Rodgers connected with James Jones on a 70 yard TD Pass. Early in the 4th Quarter, Rodgers connected with Greg Jennings on a 29 yard scoring play to strech the lead. Matt Ryan threw for 167 yards and a TD pass to Roddy White. Michael Turner also ran for a TD.

Philadelphia (24) v. Buffalo (31)

Fred Jackson was the star of the show with 111 rushing yards and a TD. Buffalo's defense picked off Michael Vick 4 times sealing the win against the hapless Eagles. Ryan Fitzpatrick was 21 of 27 for 193 yards and a TD pass to David Nelson. Michael Vick went 26 of 40 for 315 yards and 2 TDs.

New Orleans (30) v. Carolina (27)

Drew Brees rallied the Saints with a 6 yard TD pass to Pierre Thomas with 50 seconds left on the clock. Brees threw for 359 yards and 2 TDs. Jed Collins scored on a pass from Brees with a minute into the game. Mark Ingram ran for a TD. Jimmy Graham had 8 catches for 129 yards to record his 3rd straight 100 yard receiving game. John Kasey had 3 field goals for the Saints. Cam Newton threw for 224 yards with two TDs to Steve Smith and Greg Olsen and recorded a TD on a QB sneak.

Oakland(25) v. Houston(20)

Jason Cambell threw for a pair of TDs and Sebastian Janikowski booted 4 field goals to upset the Texans at Reliant Standium. Matt Schaub threw for 416 yards and 2 TDs.

Kansas City (28) v. Indianapolis (24)

Matt Cassel threw for 257 yards ( 21att 27 comp) and 4 TDs to secure a victory over the winless Colts. Dwayne Bowe and Steve Breaston each caught 2 TD pases. Bowe caught 7 passes for 128 yards. Breaston caught 4 passes for 50 yards.Jackie Battle ran 19 times for 119 yards. Curtis Painter went 15 of 27 for 277 yards with 2 TDs. Pierre Garcon scored on two catches. Garcon finished with 5 catches for 125 yards.

Cincinnati (30) v. Jacksonville (20)

Andy Dalton threw for 2 TD passes Bernard Scott scored with 1:56 on the clock to seal the victory over the Jaguars. Dalton was 21 of 33 for 179 yards with 2TDs and an INT. Cedric Benson ran 24 times for 53 yards. AJ Green caught 5 passes for 90 yards and a TD.

Arizona (10) v. Minnesota (34)

Adrian Peterson muscled thee first quarter TDs to carry the Vikings to a victory.Peterson rushed 29 times for 122 yards. Donovan McNabb 10 of 21 for 169 yards ran for a TD. Kevin Kolb had an uninspiring day finishing 21 for 42 for 232 yards and a TD. Kolb also recorded 3 turnovers.


Seattle (36) v. New York Giants (25)

Backup Quarterback Charlie Whitehurst tossed a go ahead 27 yard TD pass to Doug Baldwin to put the Seahawks ahead of the Giants with 2:37 left in the game.Tavaris Jackson was 15 of 22 for 166 yards and a TD. Whitehurst who finished for Jackson was 11 of 19 for 149 yards and a TD. Marshawn Lynch ran for 98 yards and a TD. Eli Manning was 24 of 39 for 420 yards with 3TDs and 3INTS. Victor Cruz recorded 8 catches for 161 yards and a TD.

Tennessee (17) v. Pittsburgh (38)

Ben Roethlisberger in a specially fitted shoe for his injured left foot, tied a team record of 5 TD passes. Hines Ward had 2TDs along with Mike Wallace, Heath Miller and David Johnson. Roethlisberger was 24 of 34 for 228 yards and 5TDs. Chris Johnson struggled for Tennessee rushing 51 yards on 14 carries and had a TD. Hasselbeck threw for 262 yards.


Tampa Bay (3) v. San Francisco (48)

San Francisco, fresh off its win against Philadelphia smacked the Buccaneers. Alex Smith threw 2 of his 3 TD passes to Vernon Davis. Frank Gore ran for a TD and posted his 2nd consecutive 100 yard rushing game. Delanie Walker also caught a pass for a TD. Josh Freeman was 17 for 33 with 187 yards 2INTs and sacked twice.


San Diego (29) v. Denver (24)

Phillip Rivers overcame an interception and a fourth quarter fumble to lead the Chargers to over the Broncos. Nick Novack kicked 5 field goals and Ryan Mathews ran for 125 yards on a strained right calf. Tim Tebow nearly rallied the Boncos with his play. Replacing Kyle Orten who went 6 of 13 for 34 yards in the first half, Tebow threw a short screen pass to Knowshon Moreno for a 28 yard TD.Tebow was 4 of 10 for 79 yards with 38 rushing yards and a rushing TD.


New York Jets (21) v. New England (30)

It was Ben Jarvis Green-Ellis and not Stevan Ridley that rushed for New England. Green-Ellis had 27 carries for a career high 136 yards and 2TDs. Tom Brady was 24 of 33 for 321 yards and a TD to Deion Branch. Sanchez was 16 of 26 for 166 yards and 2 TDs with a lackluster performance.


Chicago(13) v. Detroit(24)

The Detroit Lions are 5-0 for the first time since 1956. Led by Matt Stafford 19 of 26 for 219 yards and 2 TDs. Calvin Johnson ( 5 for 130 yards ) scored from 73 yards and Jahvid Best ran for 88 yards.Brandon Pettigrew also scored from 18yards. From Chicago, Matt Forte ran for 116 yards on 22 carries. Jay Cutler put forth a gutsy performance 28 of 38 for 249 yards, 1 TD and 0 INTS.
