The Start of the Bowl Season

The 2012-2013 Bowl Season gets underway this weekend with the Gilden New Mexico Bowl and the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Saturday.

We will break down each and every bowl game this season and provide predictions for the games. Which of the 3SN experts will predict the games the best? We'll find out!

Think our predictions are just plain wrong? Let us know why! Let your voice be heard!

Gildan New Mexico Bowl
Nevada Wolfpack (7-5, 4-4 MWC)  vs.  Arizona Wildcats (7-5, 4-5 Pac-12)

Preview: The bowl season kicks off with two of the best running backs in the nation squaring off in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl. Nevada’s Stefphon Williams ranks second in the country in rushing yards with 1703 yards and 22 TDs. The only player with more rushing yards? Arizona’s Ka’Deem Carey, who has 1757 yards and 20 TDs on the year. Carey is a front-runner for the Heisman Trophy for next year, and his campaign might begin in the New Mexico Bowl. Nevada already defeated a Pac-12 opponent in Cal this season.
Line: Arizona (-9.5)

Dot: Nevada - The pistol offense is very difficult to defend, and Williams will show that HE should be among the Heisman talks as much as Carey.

Greg: Arizona - The Pac-12 is the stronger conference, and the Rich Rodriguez spread should take control over Nevada.

Dellav: Arizona - tough to go against Rich-Rod with that offense against a mid-major defense.

Famous Idaho Potato Bowl
Toledo Rockets (9-3, 6-2 MAC)  vs.  #22 Utah State Aggies (10-2, 6-0 WAC)

Preview: Utah State’s two losses this year (both on the road to Wisconsin and BYU) came by a combined five points. The WAC champions averaged just under 40 points per game in their wins.  Their senior RB Kerwynn Williams leads the team in both rushing (1277) and receiving yards (663). Toledo’s three losses (at Arizona, Ball State, N. Illinois) all came by a touchdown, and the Rockets rank 8th in the country in points per game (42.2). They are led by 5’9” junior WR Benard Reedy, who has 82 receptions for 1,051 yards and 6 TDs this season.
Line: Utah State (-10.0)

Dot: Utah State - In a high-scoring game, I will go with the team who had bigger games during the year. Those close road losses are as valuable as victories for the Aggies.

Greg: Utah State - WAC teams usually air it out, but the stats sure show that their offense is dependent upon their running back. Expect them to air it out and for Williams to get many catches out of the backfield.
