2012 College Football Preview

OH BABY IT'S COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON!

There are a million storylines for the season, from coast to coast. Ohio State and Penn State serving sanctions on the east coast, USC on the west coast fresh off of a suspension and immediately the national champion favorite. And then many other teams fighting for a shot in the BCS title game in between.

So who will it be? Well, Dot and Dellav have you covered! All six BCS conferences analyzed and broken down, D&D will let you know who to expect seeing in the big games in January.

ACC

Dot:
Storyline: Florida State has already been anointed as the conference champions and possibly BCS title contenders. They have an early battle with Clemson for the Atlantic Division. Georgia Tech, North Carolina, and BeamerBall Virginia Tech will all be close for the Coastal Division.
Game to watch: Clemson at Florida State - Sept. 22
Conference MVP: E.J. Manuel (QB, Florida State)
Coach of the Year: Paul Johnson (Georgia Tech)
Dark horse: North Carolina
Champ Game: Georgia Tech vs. Florida State
Conference Champion: Florida State

Dellav:
Storyline: FSU mayne, if the o-line can hold up. I expect E.J. Manuel to have a good year. Honestly, he can be the suprise player of the year in that league. He doesn't have fans excited as he did with Christian Ponder.
Game to watch: Clemson at Florida State - Sept. 22
Conference MVP: E.J. Manuel (QB, Florida State)
Coach of the Year: Jimbo Fisher (Florida State)
Dark horse: Miami
Champ Game: Virginia Tech vs. Florida State
Conference Champion: Florida State

Big East

Dellav:
Storyline: Lots of people are saying that Pitt can win the Big East, I don't see it. If Todd Graham was still there then maybe. It's tough to work with the new coach immediately. Don't overlook South Florida though.
Game to watch: Louisville at Pttsburgh - Oct. 13
Conference MVP: Teddy Bridgewater (QB, Louisville)
Coach of the Year: Charlie Strong (Louisville)
Dark horse: South Florida
Championship Game: N/A
Conference Champion: Louisville

Dot:
Storyline: Who’s in this conference again? West Virginia is gone. TCU was in and now gone. Syracuse and Pitt are heading NEXT year. Temple comes into the conference, and will be a threat even with only returning seven starters. Oh ya, so they are still playing this year, and it's anybody's league.
Game to watch: South Florida at Pittsburgh - Dec. 1
Conference MVP: Ray Graham (RB, Pittsburgh)
Coach of the Year: Charlie Strong (Louisville)
Dark horse: Temple
Championship Game: N/A
Conference Champion: Pittsburgh

Big Ten

Dot:
Storyline: Sanctioned teams infest the Leaders Division. Ohio State and Penn State each are not bowl-eligible. The game between those two teams might be the defining moment of all of college football, however. 110,000 fans watching two teams who are playing for nothing but pride. As for teams that DO have a chance to go to Pasadena, Wisconsin has the easy Leaders Division road but I don't think they'll be very good (and Montee Ball will be nothing without Russell Wilson). Meanwhile Michigan, Michigan State, and Nebraska will be nip and tuck to the very end.
Game to watch: Ohio State at Penn State - Oct. 22
Conference MVP: Denard Robinson (QB, Michigan) / William Ghoulston (DE, Michigan State)
Coach of the Year: Bill O’Brien (Penn State)
Dark horse: Northwestern and QB Kain Colter
Championship Game: Michigan State vs. Wisconsin
Conference Champion: Michigan State

Dellav:
Storyline: Urban Meyer is all I have to say. The dude is the best coach in the nation. Period. But, sanctions, they can't win and I can't pick them.
Game to watch: Michigan State at Michigan - Oct. 20
Conference MVP: Denard Robinson (QB, Michigan)
Coach of the Year: Brady Hoke (Michigan)
Dark horse: Illinois
Championship Game: Michigan vs. Wisconsin
Conference Champion: Michigan

Big 12

Dellav:
Storyline:
This pains me to say, but I'm really thinking the Mountaineers are going to win the conference. Back when Pitt was going thought its first of 1 million head coaching searches, I thought Dana Holgerson would be the perfect man for the job with his air raid offense. Low and behold the stinkin Mountaineers grabbed him and they go to the freaking Orange Bowl and light up Clemson. Geno Smith and Dana Holgerson really are a perfect fit for air raid offense. I think WVU can't hold up against teams like Texas? Get real. They have PROVEN that they can beat top notch programs time and time again whey they have to. Oklahoma and Texas will be runners up for the championship.
Game to watch: Oklahoma vs. Texas - Oct. 13 (Neutral Site)
Conference MVP: Geno Smith (QB, West Virginia)
Coach of the Year: Dana Holgerson (West Virginia)
Dark horse: TCU
Championship Game: N/A
Conf Champion: West Virginia

Dot:
Storyline:
West Virginia and TCU enter the Big 12 this year as Texas A&M and Missouri bolt. WVU gets to travel for their first road Big 12 game to Longhorn country...good luck! Oklahoma's Landry Jones returns and makes the Sooners the team to beat.
Game to watch: West Virginia at Texas - Oct. 6
Conference MVP: Landry Jones (QB, Oklahoma), Collin Klein (QB, Kansas State)
Coach of the Year: Mack Brown (Texas)
Dark horse: TCU, Kansas State
Championship Game: N/A
Conf Champion: Oklahoma

Pac-12

Dot:
Storyline:
USC not sanctioned anymore, and they're #1. They will likely play Oregon twice this year (maybe three times? Hey the SEC got two teams in the title game, why not the Pac-12? There really is not much to watch beyond these two teams...don't forget about the Cardinal though, with or without Luck.
Game to watch: Oregon at USC - Nov. 3 (and again on December 1?)
Conference MVP: De’Anthony Thomas (RB, Oregon)
Coach of the Year: Lane Kiffin (USC)
Dark horse: Stanford
Championship Game: Oregon vs. USC
Conference Champion: USC (Oregon wins first game)

Dellav:
Storyline:
Nothing surprising....
Game to watch: Oregon at USC - Nov. 3 (and again on December 1?)
Conference MVP: De’Anthony Thomas (RB, Oregon)
Coach of the Year: Steve Sarkisian (USC)
Dark horse: Washington
Championship Game: Oregon vs. USC
Conference Champion: Oregon

SEC

Dellav:
Storyline: 'Bama and LSU are going to dominate again. I give the edge to the Tide. No Honey Badger hurts LSU of course, and they have a better schedule than last year. Don't forget about the Gamecocks, I expect a big year out of Marcus Lattimore, the team will be right in the mix.
Game to watch: LSU at Alabama - Nov. 3
Conference MVP: Marcus Lattimore (RB, South Carolina)
Coach of the Year: Nick Saban (Alabama)
Dark horse: South Carolina...are they a darkhorse? they are the #4 team in the conference...
Champ Game: South Carolina vs. Alabama
Conf Champion: Alabama

Dot:
Storyline: SEC national title game again? Man I hope not. But, yet again, the SEC is assumed to be the best before a single game is played. Five teams in the top ten in the preseason rankings. Give me a break. I'd rather watch paint dry than watch SEC games. And I'd rather see a national championship game between two teams with losing records than see another conference rematch from a conference assumed to be the best.
Game to watch: None, they're all snooze fests.
Conference MVP: Marcus Lattimore (RB, South Carolina)
Coach of the Year: Ol’ Ball Coach Steve Spurrier (South Carolina)
Dark horse: Texas A&M / Missouri
Champ Game: South Carolina vs. Alabama
Conf Champion: South Carolina

BCS

Dot:
Rose Bowl: Michigan State vs. Oregon
Sugar Bowl: Alabama vs. Kansas State
Orange Bowl: Michigan vs. Florida State
Fiesta Bowl: Oklahoma vs. Pittsburgh
BCS Championship: USC vs. SC (USC wins 27-10)

Dellav:
Rose Bowl: Michigan vs. Oregon
Sugar Bowl:  Louisville vs. Wisconsin
Orange Bowl: Florida State vs. Texas
Fiesta Bowl: West Virginia vs. USC
BCS Championship: Alabama vs. LSU (yes, again....Alabama wins)
