In the 48 hours now since the release of that report, the public outcries have come swarming in. "Tear down the Paterno statue outside Beaver Stadium." "Take his name off of the library." "Penn State deserves the death penalty."

What is the appropriate course of action by the University and the NCAA? Two PSU alumni discuss what they think should happen next, and provide general reaction to the Freeh Report.
@3SNDeLlav:
I don't think the death penalty is appropriate. Remember the guys who were involved in this are gone. No sense to punish the players, fans, and other members of the PSU community who were just as stunned by this as everyone else was. I think the "culture" of the cover up and secrecy is gone, BUT I do think they have a real chance of getting punishments that will severely damage the program for a long time. I don't think they will get the actual death penalty though.
And I am not trying to defend Penn State's honor or anything like that. I never had a problem with the way things went down in November when JoePa got fired. Also, I think it's clear now JoePa was never a scapegoat or anything like that. Expect to see an opportunity to really do some great tings in the post-child abuse scandal era. There are a lot of GREAT things JoePa did from 1950-98 but there is no defending Joe's actions from 1998 on. And as far as that Freeh dude goes, I would hate to have that dude on my tail. He went into beast mode and took no shiz from anybody and got to the bottom of all the garbage that went on.
@3SNdot:
Freeh is an investigator, not somebody who is in a position to make suggestions. He suggested that Paterno should have alerted his staff in 2001 of what Sandusky did...yes, and he would have been fired for slander, would have been violating HIPAA. There are some bad things in this report, but Freeh makes assumptions with his comments, and those assumptions are what the public hears instead of people drawing their own conclusions (yes those conclusions would be the same for most, but I'd like people to make their own opinions for once). There's nothing really new in this document, just intertwined with opinion.
I wish everybody would keep their eye on the ball and remember the victims. I would love for those non-alumni who just call for a statue to be torn down or call for the death penalty to do the same.
Everything done has been premature. Joe should have been fired, yes, but was done before any info could even begin to surface. B1G takes name off of trophy "just in case." People calling for statue to be taken down based on no new info....He had his fair share of the blame, yes. He's the only one who has admitted it. But this document is full of opinion, very very limited factual evidence against Paterno. More information will come out...possibly for Paterno, possibly against. He is certainly not innocent, but to what extent we cannot be certain yet.
Comments from Bowden and Smith is how it starts. Especially Smith, because he's employed by a sports agency that forces everybody to hear what they want us to hear. Let the real powers in charge make the punishment decisions for once. Everybody take a breath, because more info must come out one way or the other.
In the mean time, keep focusing on the kids affected over the past too many years.
